It was featured on Weather Window on Global TV on Monday evening.

I didn’t see the bride but I imagined  she carried a bouquet of daisies. To me, VWs and Daisies go together.

I remember my grandparents vegetable garden; it seemed to take up their whole back yard. Rows of corn, potatoes, pole beans, onions and carrots!  

Grandpa would take my brothers and I out to the garden to “help” gather some veggies to take home.  It was like magic to us that growing under the feathery green tops were delicious crisp little carrots.  Grandpa would pull 3 or 4 for each of us and rinse them off at the garden hose. We would eagerly gobble them down asking for more! 

Funny, Mom had a hard time getting us kids to eat our carrots at the dinner table; I guess they tasted way better right out of the ground seasoned with a bit of dirt.

Well, It’s been just over a month since I planted the tiny seeds and already I’ve been rewarded with fresh radishes and lettuce! 

It’s very easy to grow vegetables… even in the rain!

It’ll be awhile before the carrots are ready to pull.

It has been far too long since I last posted on my blog! 

For the month of June I participated in a Flickr “Photo-a-Day” challenge hosted by White Peach Photography.  My good friend Meesh suggested we take the challenge.  I’m glad she did - it was certainly challenging… and lots of fun!  Thanks Meesh!

I made a commitment to plant vegetables in my garden this year and I’ve finally been able to keep my promise. 

Last Sunday I planted  lettuce,  radishes and  carrots in patio planters.

After a week, the lettuce and radishes have started to sprout!   Aren’t they the cutest little radishes?!  

I volunteered some of my day helping set up in the morning. Then in the evening with the help of another volunteer, we kept the coffee and hot chocolate coming  for the walkers. 

For me, one of the most emotional parts of the day is the memorial lap.  Everyone walks in silence around the track  thinking about someone they know and love who has battled cancer; some won the fight, some are still in the battle and sadly others have lost… It’s unfortunately rare to find someone who has not been affected by cancer in some way. For me, I lost my mom.

The track is lined with luminaries.  The luminaries  have been lovingly decorated to remember or support a loved one. Others have words of encouragement…

I have been spreading a bit of bird seed in the garden this year because of the colder spring weather. The Jays come for breakfast and this one was flying to the laburnum tree in the garden.

I was trying to get a shot of the Jay in flight.  This isn’t what I was trying to achieve, but I like the result
